I'm Mariko, and I love telling stories of cities and urbanism. I’ve been working as an independent editor, journalist, curator, and researcher in the fields of architecture and urbanism, and I co-founded "for Cities", a new urban experience design studio based in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Amsterdam in 2021. I manage a website called Traveling Circus of Urbanism, where I collect, share, and archive urban narratives from across the globe, and the cultural & community space Bridge To, where I host an “urbanist in residence” program in Kyoto, Japan. Through journalistic and curatorial works and action-based research such as organizing design workshops and education programs, my mission is to cultivate a trajectory that creates connections between storytelling and the fields of architecture and urbanism. I’m also highly mobile — I’ve lived in 8 countries so far and I’m always on the lookout for international collaborations.
