Until May 6, 2024, I was working as a team leader for Central Ethiopia Regional Development Spatial Plan, a UN-Habitat project. Prior to this I have completed (as a team leader) the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional Development Spatial Plan (SNNPR-RDSP), also a UN-Habitat project, that was validated and currently under implementation. Earlier, I was Commissioner for Addis Ababa City Plan Commission; GM for the newly ratified Addis Ababa Master Plan which is currently under implementaion; GM for Addis Ababa and its surrounding Oromia Special Zone Regional plan; founder and managing director of MATHEWOS Consult, a private firm engaged mainly in the preparation of urban and regional plans, planning manuals, urban regularization, urban governance, surveying, and related urban research activities. I served as a general manager for the Addis Ababa Infrastructure and Construction Authority following the city’s reform program of 2003. I was also the general manager of the earlier Addis Ababa Master Plan Project (1999-2003), which was legally adopted and implemented. My area of expertise covers Regional and Urban Planning and development, local development planning, urban design, real estate neighborhood development, informal settlements regularization, urban institutions building and governance. I hold a BSc. degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia; an MSc. degree in Planning Studies from Oxford Brookes University, UK; and a PhD degree in City, Architecture and Planning from University of Venice, Italy.
